Prepare an RFQ

Include product type, drawing or standard reference, material, grade, thread, dimensions, finish, quantity and delivery requirements.

Separate the specification fields

Keep product standard, material designation, mechanical grade, dimensions and surface finish as separate fields.

Build a bill of materials

List each specification separately, with quantity and unit. Identify matching nuts or washers and any packaging requirements.

Blind rivets: build a usable purchasing brief

Start with the blind rivet product range, then identify the exact item and size. A catalogue label such as stainless steel or aluminium is not a complete joint specification.

• Body and mandrel: state both materials separately.
• Dimensions: specify diameter, length, head style and the proposed hole size.
• Grip: give the total thickness of the assembled materials and the required grip range.
• Installation: identify the setting tool and any access restrictions.
• Quantity: list quantity per size, pack requirements and delivery destination.

Does the project require a structural blind fastener?

Do not treat an ordinary open-end blind rivet as a verified structural substitute. If the drawing calls for structural performance, include the required product specification, joint conditions, load requirements and supporting evidence in the inquiry. Ask for confirmation against the exact proposed part before accepting a substitution. A photograph, material name or generic catalogue title does not establish structural suitability.

Keep unknown fields marked “to be confirmed”. Do not turn an unverified equivalent into a confirmed specification. For drawing-based parts, use the custom fastener inquiry guide; for documentation, review the quality control requirements.

Compare quotations on the same basis

Match each quoted line to its drawing or specification. Record the quantity unit, packing quantity, tooling or sample charges, inspection scope, freight basis and exclusions. Ask the supplier to identify any proposed substitution separately. Agree the sample and document requirements before placing the production order.
